President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Damilola Ogunbiyi, Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, on her recognition as the first Nigerian recipient of the TIME Earth Awards.


The TIME Earth Awards are the organisation’s highest distinction, honouring individuals whose contributions have significantly advanced global action on climate change and the transition to sustainable energy.


In a statement released on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Ogunbiyi’s outstanding leadership in promoting clean energy solutions and accelerating the decarbonisation of energy systems, especially in developing regions.

He highlighted that under her leadership, Sustainable Energy for All has extended support to more than 100 countries and facilitated over $1.6 trillion in energy financing commitments.


Tinubu noted that the award reflects Ogunbiyi’s remarkable achievements, professionalism, and dedication to sustainable development.


He stated that her recognition not only celebrates her personal excellence but also reinforces Nigeria’s increasing role in driving innovative solutions to global development challenges.


The President further applauded her commitment to service and her efforts in enhancing Nigeria’s reputation internationally, while wishing her continued success in her future endeavours.
